One blog post won’t tell the story or do it justice – so here’s a series in 4 parts to share the story of two houses, a client and me! ¬† In 2012 – a family looked up the Reflections Interior Design¬†website and proposed a partnership of walking the road to design a¬†highly customized forever home in Genito West, just outside Midlothian, Virginia. ¬†The land was chosen, and the plans were in the process of being drawn. ¬†Their house in Brandermill in Chesterfield County had to be sold as well – though this was a long term project and we were about two years from that step when we met. ¬†¬†Good design takes time, and this was no exception. ¬†This project was just one of the catalyst’s for having the need for design and real estate ‘under one roof’. ¬†My clients and I develop long term relationships and we also create strategic plans – for buying, selling, and building. ¬†Design touches every one of those areas.
The plans were drawn for this home when we first met, however upon review we started to uncover some ‘hiccups’ in the structure and ways that the home could¬†be built to make it fall in to place (without falling down!). ¬†The land was already being cleared, and timber from the property was being milled to be used for custom elements we knew would be part of the home. One tip for readers here: is if you are considering a custom design / build with a builder or architect – it is imperative to visit other homes completed by the person. ¬†Hire a Realtor with experience building new homes like Meredith Hayes – Reflections Homes¬†to make sure the design is compatible with the area/market.¬†¬†Talk to the owners, teams we build for our clients to create homes either building or renovating are so important and it takes client’s funding to create plans – so knowing who is qualified to draft those plans up front will save headaches of time and money.
